Col William Polk

Colonel William Polk was a Revolutionary War officer from Raleigh, North Carolina, seeing action at the Battle of Brandywine, where he was wounded, and again at the Battle of Germantown, after which he recuperated at Valley Forge during the harsh winter of 1777-1778. After the war, he served in the North Carolina House of Commons and on the North Carolina Council of State. Polk received a large land grant in what is now Columbia, Tennessee, later associated with the legendary gambling game "rattle and snap". Two homes built for his sons are located in Ashwood. - AsNotedIn
