Isaac Hilliard Polk

Isaac Hilliard Polk, kin to President James K Polk, was the son of Sally L Hilliard and George Washington Polk. He was reared upon the family plantation, Rattle and Snap, now a National Historic Landmark in Ashwood, Tennessee, known for its private tours. His uncle Lucius inhabited Hamilton Place, now a private residence nearby, while another uncle, Leonidas Polk — Episcopal bishop and later a general of the Confederate States — built St John's Episcopal Church in Ashwood. Isaac first wed Ismela Marta Lanfranco, granddaughter of Don Jose Loreto Sepulveda, who was commissioned by the King of Spain to aid in the founding of the California missions.
