Gerard Chittocque Brandon was an Irish-born Revolutionary War cavalryman who fled Ireland after the failure of Robert Emmet's uprising and settled first in Charleston before moving to Adams County, Mississippi. A veteran of the campaigns of Francis Marion and Colonel William Washington, he fought at Cowpens and Kings Mountain and later became the patriarch of a prominent Mississippi family. His marriage to Dorothy Nugent in 1785 anchored the Brandon line in Natchez, where his son, Gerard C Brandon, would become Governor of Mississippi. Brandon died in 1823 and is buried in Natchez City Cemetery. - AsNotedIn
