William Irby Boyd

  • American

William Irby Boyd emerges as one of the earliest settlers of Williamson County, establishing a log residence around 1800 that stood among the first homes built in the region. Appointed in 1797 by the Tennessee Legislature as one of the initial commissioners charged with regulating Williamson County and the town of Franklin, he appears frequently in early court records for jury service and other civic duties. By 1820, Boyd held several hundred acres and enslaved eighteen people, reflecting his position within the county's developing agricultural economy. He lived in his log house until his death in 1828, leaving a notable imprint on the county's formative years. - AsNotedIn
