Lt Henry Adams Jr
English
Born in Barton St David, Somerset, Henry Adams came to Massachusetts in 1638 aboard the MARY & JOHN with his father Henry Adams of Braintree, mother Edith Squire and siblings. He first settled in Braintree, where he served as the town's first clerk, before joining the founding group of Medfield in 1651. Across the 1650s-1670s he held civic and military roles: town clerk, representative to the General Court (1659, 1665, 1674, 1675), and lieutenant of Medfield's militia. During King Philip's War, Adams was killed on 21 February 1676, ambushed at his doorway while responding to the alarm during the Medfield raid. His wife, Elizabeth Paine — whom he married in 1643 — died days later from an accidental discharge of a soldier's firearm at the house where she had taken refuge. Adams fathered at least eight children in New England, with early births in Braintree and later ones in Medfield. He also owned property in Sherborn, where his name appears first on the town's war memorial. - AsNotedIn
