Pieter Rijsbrack
Duchy of Brabant, Spanish Netherlands
Pieter Rijsbraeck was a Flemish landscape painter, draftsman, printmaker and tapestry designer. Born in Antwerp, he trained under Philips Augustijn Immenraet and worked in England and France before establishing himself as a leading landscape artist in Antwerp. His paintings, often inspired by Italianate and Arcadian scenery, combined pastoral settings with biblical, mythological, and genre subjects. In 1713 he became the first director of the re-established Antwerp Academy, later moving to Brussels, where he died in 1729. He was the father of painter Pieter Andreas Rysbrack and sculptor John Michael Rysbrack. - AsNotedIn
