Sommepy-Tahure is a commune in the Marne department in the Grand Est region. Formed in 1950 through the merger of the former villages Sommepy and Tahure — both destroyed during World War I — it stands as a landscape shaped by conflict and reconstruction. The commune lies near Blanc Mont Ridge, one of the major battlefields of the First World War. Just northwest of the village rises the Sommepy American Monument, a striking memorial honoring the more than 70,000 American troops who fought alongside the French Fourth Army in 1918.
