The Cedars

  • Address: 1311 Military Rd
  • Travel Genus: Sight
  • Sight Category: Building

Constructed in part circa 1830 during the settlement of Columbus, Mississippi the Cedars is among the earliest extant residences in the area. Purchased and expanded in 1835 by Captain Edward Brett Randolph, a veteran of the War of 1812, the property has remained in the Randolph-Sherman-Hardy family for six generations. The architectural significance of the house is derived from the application and addition of late Federal elements to a single-pen log-cabin form. - NRHP, 12 February 1979
