Georgian Revival architecture and a 40 year History of Segregation

From the time it was built until the 1960s, the white and black audiences at the Columbia Township Auditorium were segregated. If the performers were white, white spectators used the front doors and the seats on the first floor, black spectators would use the side door and sit in the balcony. If the performers were black, the logistics were reversed and white patrons use the side door and sat in the balcony, while black patrons walked through the front and sat in the first floor seats.
