The Downtown Wenatchee Historic District is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places under Criteria A and C. The period of significance begins in 1902 with the construction of the Wells Morris Hardware Building (earliest extant structure) and ends in 1955 with the construction of the Seattle First Bank (a Modern style building representing a new era in architectural styles in downtown Wenatchee). Commerce, transportation and industry are areas of significance which demonstrate the district's eligibility under Criterion A for its association with broad patterns of history which led to the growth and development of Wenatchee as the largest city in North Central Washington and as a leader in the apple industry known throughout the world. The district is also eligible under Criterion C (area of significance: Architecture) for its collection of commercial, mixed-use, and industrial buildings that are good examples of commercial vernacular and early twentieth century architecture which, together, present a strong statement on the historic significance of the district's contribution to Wenatchee's development. - NRHP, 23 July 2008
