Johnnie's Famous Red Hots is a hot dog counter joint in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. Opened in 1972, the stand serves a fine Chicago dog with its own twist — a real Vienna Beef hot dog in a steamed poppy-seed bun, topped with freshly sliced cucumbers instead of a pickle spear, Roma tomatoes, neon-green Vienna relish, and celery salt, with sport peppers on request. They're equally known for their Mother-in-Law: a Tom Tom corn-roll tamale tucked into a poppy-seed hot dog bun and covered with chili, onions, two tomato wedges, relish, and a cucumber slice. Order the Tamale Sundae for a Tom Tom in a bowl with chili; make it a Super Sundae by adding cheese. This cash-only joint has outside seating but no dining room — Chicago South Side comfort food served exactly as it should be. - AsNotedIn
