Two Pairs of Gate Piers stand in the forecourt of St John's Lodge in The Regent's Park, London, each pair individually listed at Grade II. One pair flanks the north side of the forecourt and the other the south. Each pier is a channelled square stone post with a pronounced cornice cap, surmounted by a Baroque escutcheon supported by sculpted boys — ornamental features thought to have been added under Lord Bute. Although St John's Lodge is a private residence, the piers can be glimpsed from the Inner Circle through the entrance gate or from St John's Lodge Garden, which is open to the public. - AsNotedIn
