Newgate Prison Wall is a small remaining portion of the infamous Newgate Prison in London, England. The structure is visible through the gateway at No 8A Amen Court, just north of Amen Lodge on Warwick Lane. Commissioned in the 12th century by Henry II, Newgate Prison became one of the most notorious jails in London, operating for more than seven centuries until its closure in 1902; long associated with overcrowding, disease, and public executions, the prison was later demolished, leaving only a section of wall on Amen Court. A door from the prison survives in the collection at the Museum of London, and the Newgate Execution Bell is now housed at the Church of St Sepulchre. - AsNotedIn
