Ravelin IX is a well-preserved fragment of the impressive Baroque fortifications that once completely surrounded the city of Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic. Constructed in the late 18th century as part of a massive modern military fortress under Emperor Joseph II, it was designed according to the advanced Vauban principles of the time. What can be seen today represents about a quarter of its original size, with the remainder hidden beneath the foundations of nearby modern structures. While much of the fortress was dismantled in the late 19th century to facilitate the city's expansion, Ravelin IX — tucked away in Simkovy sady behind the Charles University Faculty of Medicine — remains a protected cultural heritage monument.
