The former Greyhound Bus Depot in Columbia, South Carolina stands as the city's finest example of Art Moderne design. Its east, north and west elevations form a continuous streamlined surface composed in three horizontal bands: blue stucco at the base, twelve courses of glass block with stainless-steel bands above, and a crown of blue and ivory Vitrolite panels carried smoothly around rounded corners. Four ivory Vitrolite pillars mark the entrance, sheltered by an aluminum marquee trimmed in stainless steel and originally flanked by metal greyhounds. The vertical sign above, now missing its running dog and neon "Greyhound Bus Depot" lettering, once completed the facade. Inside, the station featured terrazzo floors, plaster walls, Prestwood wainscoting, and a central skylight reflected the sleek modernity of late-1930s travel and the Art Moderne palette laid out by Raymond Loewy. - AsNotedIn
