The Jarius Hitchcox House, a private residence in Union, Michigan, is one of the most historic places in Cass County. Built during the pioneer period, it served as a tavern and stage station from about 1840 until traffic on the Territorial Road shifted to railroads. During its years as a stage stop, the house sheltered hundreds of emigrants and supported the stage company-s vehicles and horses in large sheds behind the residence.
