Georgian Manor on the James River
Claremont Manor stands on the right bank of the James River in Claremont, Viginia, an 1,100-acre private estate whose story begins in the 1620s when Jamestown settler George Harrison planted tobacco on the site. Through the centuries the property passed from the Clements to the Allens—who raised the Georgian house in 1750—and later to notable twentieth-century owners who expanded, restored, and preserved the grounds. Today the manor's riverfront setting, Georgian architecture, and long chain of proprietors reflect more than four hundred years of Virginia plantation history. - AsNotedIn
