A Very Practical Town Hall

A compact civic building of red sandstone, the Old Town Hall in Collonges-la-Rouge, France, served as the village's former mairie — a small town city hall. Built across the 16th to 18th centuries, its steeply pitched roof is marked by a pulley dormer, while basket-handle arches shape the ground floor and softer segmental arches define the upper openings. Inside, a carved stone fireplace dated 1626 anchors the structure's pre-modern character. Its facades, roofs, and the first-floor fireplace are protected as a Monument Historique. - AsNotedIn
