An Homage to Wings

The Angel of the North is a monumental steel sculpture standing beside the A167 south of Gateshead, England. Designed by Antony Gormley and completed in 1998, the figure rises 20 meters with a wingspan of 54 meters, its weathering-steel surface forming a protective patina that anchors the work in the landscape. Intended as a marker of transition and memory on a former colliery site, the sculpture has become a defining symbol of North East England and one of the most visited public artworks in the country. - AsNotedIn
