1887/06/17 The mob takes Ben Hance to a locust tree on the courthouse yard to hang him.
1887/06/17 A mob of men abduct Benjamin Hance, take him to Newtowne Neck Road about a mile or two from the jail near the farm of the late John F Wathen, and hang him from a witch hazel tree branch overhanging a public road.
1887/06/17 Peter H Abell, coming out of the Neck heading to Washington Goldsborourgh's farm whose wheat he is to harvest, discovers Hance's body. Abell sends John Dawson to alert the authorities. Dr Charles Comb will cut down and examined Hance. Compton, Maryland
1887/09/29 A Grand Jury says they have failed to fix the guilt for the lynching of Ben Hance upon any particle person or persons. Mr and Mrs Clements had testified at the jury of inquest that they heard the voices of Sheriff Bailey and W V Waters in the mob.
