Hoppefeesten is a triannual summer festival in Poperinge, Belgium, that celebrates the hops harvest, De Hoppepluk. Historically, thousands of free spirited people, locally known as vrimde plukkers, came to Poperinge in September to pick hops for the growers. Once the harvest was in, people would celebrated. A modern, organized, Hop Festival, complete with parade, was establish in 1956 after the most visiting pickers, hoppeplukkers, were replaced by hop harvesting machines. - AsNotedIn
