Sleuth is a 1972 film adaptation of Anthony Shaffer's Tony Award winning play, Sleuth (Best Play, 1972). The mystery film was director Joseph L Mankiewicz's last movie. At the Academy Awards, Mankiewicz was nominated for Best Director and stars, Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine, were both nominated for Best Actor. Unfortunately, 1972 was also the year of film greats The Godfather and Cabaret. - AsNotedIn
