Released in April 2004 via Rough Trade Records, For Lovers served as the debut single for English musician Peter Wolfe, aka Wolfman, while featuring Pete Doherty on vocals. The track became a notable indie success, peaking at No 7 on the Official UK Singles Chart.

Originally composed by Wolfman in a Paddington area pub during the late 1990s following his divorce, the song first existed as a demo recorded with his school friend, Julian Taylor. The 2004 single was produced by Jake Fior and Frank Pharaoh. While Doherty provided vocals, he also contributed to the lyrics, notably adding the line regarding the "jailer rattling the key."

The single is also notable for its B-side, "Back from the Dead," which features Carl Barat on guitar, and its distinctive cover art designed by artist Hannah Bays. - AsNotedIn
