Mr and Mrs Ralph Izard is a painting by John Singleton Copley. Painted in Rome, the monumental oil on canvas depicts the Izards as connoisseurs on the Grand Tour. The Izards left Rome in late 1775 before the their portrait was completed and returned to London before moving on to Paris. Copley completed the painting and brought it to London, possibly exhibiting the work at the Royal Academy, London, in 1776, titled A Conversation. In 1824, Copley's widow, Susanna Farnham (nee Clarke), sold the portrait to the sitters' grandson, Dr Gabriel Manigault (1788-1834) of Charleson, South Carolina. - AsNotedIn
