Willamette Arnett
American
Willamette Arnett (1848-1901) was an extravagant (he was known for wearing ten dollar gold pieces as buttons) businessman from a wealthy family in Boulder, Colorado. In 1859, Will's father, Anthony, brought his family to Colorado to take advantage of opportunities from the Pike's Peak Gold Rush. Anthony Arnett prospered with interest in mining and real estate, becoming an early benefactor to the University of Colorado with monetary and land donations. Willamette Arnett was not successful in business like his father and fell into financial trouble during the construction of his home in the late 1870s. With the collapse of the silver market in 1893, Colorado's economic boom ended. - AsNotedIn
