The Hanseatic League was a medieval association of German merchants that dominated trade in northern Europe from the 13th to the 15th century. Hanses, a medieval German word for guild, or association, is the common term for members of the Hanseatic League.

A Kontor was a major trading post of the Hanseatic League established in a foreign city, that is a city that didn't belong to the Hanseatic League. The four Kontors were located in Bergen, Bruges, London and Novgorod. The Bruges Kontor was also located in Antwerp. - AsNotedIn
