Anne Hampton Northup was an American chef who worked in private homes and some of America's finest hotels, such as the United States Hotel in Sarasota Springs, New York, where she met one of America's wealthiest women, Eliza Jumel. Mrs Northup was born in New York City in 1808 and died in Moreau, New York, 8 August 1876. She had three children, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Alonzo, with her husband Solomon S Northup who was abducted and sold into slavery for 12 years. - AsNotedIn
