Benning Wentworth

  • Province of New Hampshire

Benning Wentworth was the colonial governor of New Hampshire from 1741 to 1766. Growing through his official duties, New Hampshire citizens made several attempts to remove Wentworth from office, charging him with abusing the office of surveyor of the king's woods, nepotism, favoring his relatives with land grants, charging additional fees and by taking a part of each grant for himself. - AsNotedIn
