Shipwright

Joshua Humphreys, a shipwright from Philadelphia, became the first American Naval Constructor when he was commissioned in 1794 to design and build six frigates, one of which is the USS CONSTITUTION. These vessels were more stable, larger and faster than comparable war ships and were the core of the US Navy's 22 vessel fleet. - AsNotedIn
