James G Marshall

James G Marshall was a chemical engineer who came to Niagara Falls in 1896 to work at the Electro Metallurgical Electromet Company, working his way up to General Superintendent. In 1937, he received the Jacob F Schoellkopf Medal from the Western New York section of the American Chemical Society for his work in the development and growth of calcium carbide and ferroally industries. Mr Marshall retired from the Electromet in 1939 but continued on as a consultant.
Manhattan Project
From 1942 through 1953 Electromet, a Union Carbide company, performed work with radioactive materials under contract to the Manhattan Engineer District (MED) and the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). Electromet converted uranium tetrafluoride (green salt) into uranium metal ingots, to be used by various laboratories and steel fabricators. They also supplied calcium metal to Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, Iowa State College and AEC's Santa Fe Yards. - AsNotedIn
