Advocate for Aseptic Techniques
Dr William Stewart Halsted, surgeon and clinical teacher, is notable for his experimental work and innovate surgical techniques. Dr Halsted introduced the radical mastectomy for the treatment of breast cancer and nerve blocking anesthesia. He also developed many of what are now the fundamentals of surgical medicine: such as surgical residency training, strict aseptic technique, use of rubber gloves, procedures for gently handling tissue, use of fine silk sutures, small stitches and the practice of completely closing a wound. - AsNotedIn
