George Doyle
George Doyle was an executive at the Hinsdale, Doyle Granite Company, sculptor and granite worker, but he is remembered today as the father of American sculptor Alexander Doyle. Working in gray New England granite, he executed pieces such as the Artilleryman for the Washington Artillery Memorial at Metairie Cemetery in New orleans, reflecting the craftsmanship and memorial culture of the era. His role within the family's stone-working tradition forms the foundation from which Alexander Doyle's nationally recognized sculptural career emerged. - AsNotedIn
