Jonathan Glidden
Province of New Hampshire
Jonathan Glidden was a colonial New Hampshire resident and a son of Captain Richard Glidden, part of the second generation of the Glidden family in Exeter. He served with his brother Andrew under Captain John Gilman during the 1710 provincial march and later became active in the civic development of emerging towns in Rockingham County. A member of the Society of Friends, he married Margaret Bean, and their family lived at Epping, where all eight of their children were born. Glidden joined the 1741 petition to establish the parish of Epping and later helped organize the town of Deerfield, serving as assessor and selectman. His life reflects the westward expansion of early Glidden family settlements across eighteenth-century New Hampshire. - AsNotedIn
