John Michael Rysbrack was a Flemish-born sculptor who became one of the leading portrait and monument sculptors in eighteenth-century England. Born in Antwerp, he trained with his father, painter Pieter Rijsbraeck, before settling in London in the 1720s. Renowned for his marble portrait busts, funerary monuments, and public sculptures, he received commissions from many of Britain's leading aristocratic, political, and cultural figures. His works, noted for their naturalism and expressive modeling, helped shape the development of British sculpture during the Georgian era. - AsNotedIn
