The University and Historic Precinct of Alcala de Henares is a 16th century historic district in Alcala de Henares, about 35 kilometres (22 miles) northeast of the city of Madrid, Spain. The 79 ha area, including the Colegio Mayor de San Idelfonso or the Monastery of St Bernard, was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998 as the world's first planned university city and as the original model for the Civitas Dei (City of God), the ideal urban community which Spanish missionaries brought to the Americas. - AsNotedIn
