Escalante Petrified Forest State Park is a natural area in Utah, United States, situated northwest of the town of Escalante and 45 miles (71 km) east of Bryce Canyon National Park. About 135 to 155 million years ago, the colorful cliffs in the park were a plain where large trees were buried in mud by floods. One specimen in the preserve is a 50 ft petrified tree that can be seen from its roots to the tip. - AsNotedIn
