1752/05/27 Moses Porter Home The roof is raised for a house on a tract of land known as "Forty Acres and its skirts" for Moses and Elizabeth Porter. It is the first residence built outside the town's protective stockade.
1752/12/00 Elizabeth Porter Phelps Home Mr and Mrs Porter and daughter Elizabeth move into their their new home. The design features a central hall when most houses in western Mass are built around a central chimney.
1770/06/14 Charles Phelps Home Elizabeth Porter marries Charles Phelps. They live on the Porter family estate at Forty Acres with Elizabeth's mother. Charles takes over management of the farm and immediately begins expanding and improving both the house and farm.

1782/00/00 Charles Phelps Architect In 1782, Charles Phelps builds a large barn and in 1795, a chaise house. According to family tradition, Phelps was a self taught architect and may have made the plans for many improvements himself.
1847/04/06 Elizabeth Phelps Huntington Died Elizabeth Whiting Phelps Huntington dies in Hadley, having spent all but 15 years of her life at "Forty Acres."
