1844/00/00 An overland emigrant named Bartholomew C Kindred discovers iron deposits near Sucker Lake - today's Lake Oswego.
1862/00/00 Oregon Iron Works Genesis A blacksmith at Oswego smelts iron ore found in the vicinity of Oswego and makes a pick and horseshoe nails.
1865/00/00 Oregon Iron Works Owner At Oswego, a small town on the Willamette River south of Portland, H C Leonard, H D Green and William S Ladd make plans to build the first blast furnace and iron foundry in the Pacific Northwest.
1865/05/00 G D Wilbur Architect Ground is broken on the first pig iron furnace west of the Rocky Mountains. G D Wilbur begins erecting a basalt stack based on the Barnum stack (lost) he built in Lime Rock, Connecticut. Its foundations are laid on the bed-rock at a depth of 16 feet.
1867/08/24 Oregon Iron Works Owners On its first day of production, the Oswego Iron Company furnace pours six tons of metal. The blast furnace averages eight tons per day, and two and a half tons of locally dug limonite ore produce one ton of pig iron.
1885/08/24 Operating through subsequent years under various names and managements, the furnace eventually falls out of use and is abandoned. Today the only major vestige of the Oregon Iron Company operation is the furnace, preserved in George Rogers Park.
1945/03/14 Oregon Iron Works Seller Oregon Iron and Steel Company sells for $13,234.60 to the City of Lake Oswego, the eastern portion of what will become George Rogers Park
1950/00/00 George M Rogers Champion George Rogers develops Oregon Iron and Steel Company into parkland, including planting hundreds of Croft lilies
