Hamilton Place is a historic plantation and private residence in the Ashwood area of Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. One of four fine homes built by the Polk brothers within a one-mile radius, the mansion is an almost purely Georgian-style residence with emerging Greek Revival influences. The two-story brick main block features a pedimented front portico with slender Doric columns on the lower level and Ionic columns above, supporting a recessed two-story porch. The large front windows and paired front doors reflect the Greek Revival style beginning to take hold in Tennessee at the time. The two-story central structure is original, with one-story flanking wings added shortly afterward. The brick was fired on the property and laid in Flemish bond, and the timbers were well-seasoned before use. Skilled craftsmen were brought from North Carolina to complete the finishing work. - AsNotedIn
