The Patterson House is an Italianate mansion designed by Stanford White of McKim, Mead and White for Mr and Mrs Robert W Patterson. Mr Robert W Patterson was a prominent editor of the Chicago Tribune. Mrs Nellie (Medill) Patterson was the daughter of Joseph Medill, owner of the Chicago Tribune.
In 1927, the Patterson's daughter, Eleanor Josephine Medill "Cissy" Patterson (herself an editor and newspaper owner) lent the home to President and Mrs. Calvin Coolidge. The Coolidge's home, the White House, was being renovated with the addition of third floor. During this time, Charles A. Lindbergh was a guest of the president after he became the first person to fly non-stop from New York City to Paris, France. - AsNotedIn
