For the first 20 years of existence, the pump house sent water to San Antonio homes and businesses, but eventually it was deemed obsolete and was abandoned. In 1924, sculptor Gutzon Borglum rented the building as a studio and here he created the first clay model for Mount Rushmore. Borglum worked on many other works of art but left San Antonio sometime around 1936. - AsNotedIn
