1876/00/00 Thomas Edison Inventor Edison establishes a laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey. As the world's first organized research and development site, Edison and his staff will create 400 of his most important inventions here. Edison fondly nicknames it 'Invention Factory'.
1877/11/00 Thomas Edison Inventor Menlo Park is the Birthplace of Recorded Sound.
1879/10/00 Thomas Edison Inventor Edison invents the first practical incandescent lamp-light bulb.
1880/01/27 Thomas Edison Inventor Thomas Edison receives a patent for an incandescent lamp, soon to be a commercially viable electric light bulb. Invention of Public Electricity Supply
1880/12/17 Edison Illuminating Company Established Thomas Edison establishes the Edison Illuminating Company to build electrical generating stations.
1926/00/00 By 1926 most of the original Menlo Park buildings have either collapsed or burned. The only two remaining buildings will be moved to Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan.
1938/02/11 Massena and DuPont Architect Thomas Alva Edison Memorial Tower is dedicated.
