1892/00/00 Thomas Hitchcock Sr Home Thomas Hitchcock establishes the Palmetto Golf Club by laying out 4 holes (16, 17, 18 and the practice range). At the their 3,000 acre (12 km2) winter estate, Hitchcock's build a steeplechase track and train thoroughbred horses imported from England.
1900/00/00 Hitchcock Woods is developed at the turn of the century for riding and fox and drag hunting. Many of the properties in the district are associated with key figures in the development of the Winter Colony.
