1929/11/02 On South Dakota State University's Hobo Day, Harold and Gladys Nikalson with an old Chevrolet, a white gas stove and little else open a hamburger stand at the Reynolds building in Brookings, SD. Hamburger
1932/07/20 Gus Dixon of Flandreau, with his partners J C Chimbouris and George Angeleson, lease a lot from the Maddens.
1932/08/05 Fred Carlsen Architect Fred Carlsen begins building a restaurant for Gus Dixon. The building will be Spanish type, trimmed in a novel manner which will make it attractive. Many buildings of this type dot the business sections of California towns, Mr Carlsen said.
1932/10/00 In the Fall, Dixon opens the Lincoln Cafe. The business will fail within six weeks.
1933/02/00 The Niklasons open Nick's Hamburger Shop in the vacant Dixon building.
1935/00/00 The Niklasons buy the building from Gus Dixon for $2,000.
1937/00/00 The Niklasons purchase the lot from the Maddens for $10,000.
1947/10/18 Hobo Day, when the Jackrabbits play arch rival University of South Dakota, the Nikalson's sell 4,450 hamburgers. Nick's Hamburger Shop only has 20 stools. Hamburger
