Jasper County Courthouse
- Address: Courthouse Sq
The cross-plan Jasper County Courthouse sits on the corner of the square facing an open treelined park area. A small business section with some turn of the century buildings remain to create a charming townscape. The Corinthian tetrastyle entrance of the courthouse projects from the main portion of the building and has an entablature and pediment with lunette. The octagonal, lanterned clock tower rises from a square base. On most Georgia courthouses the dome is visible only from the exterior with no indication inside that it exists. Uniquely, this dome is visible from the rotunda. It has a stained glass, petal shaped top which lights the rotunda and a brass railed interior balcony at the base of the dome. Pressed metal ceilings, an iron stairway with marble steps and beaded board wainscoting are the connecting design elements which lead one to the second story. A revolving door connects the hall with the courtroom. There the coved metal ceiling features a floral motif divided into square sections. The balcony with its egg and dart and bead and reel detailing remains open. The litigation area is large; the railing that separates this area from the. spectator section is bow shaped. - US NRHP
