1962/00/00 Armenian Vartkes Iskenderian and his family open a small restaurant on a street corner in the Bourj Hammoud neighborhood of Beirut, Lebanon, serving delicious chicken adorned with a secret garlic sauce.
1984/00/00 Zankou opens in Hollywood attracting aspiring actors, artists, writers and musicians with its delicious inexpensive meals.
1991/00/00 With Mardiros' plan to open more locations, the Iskenderian family divide the business. The new restaurants would be owned by Mardiros, while the original Sunset and Normandie store would be owned by his parents and two sisters.
1992/00/00 Mardiros Iskenderian opens the second Zankou Chicken in Glendale, California. The success of this branch will lead Mardiros to open Zankou Chicken restaurants in Van Nuys, Anaheim and Pasadena.
2003/01/14 At his Glendale home, Zankou Chicken owner Mardiros Iskenderian shoots and kills his sister, Dzovig Marjik, and his mother Margarit Iskenderian. He then takes his own life. It is believed that Iskenderian was in the late stages of colon and brain cancer.
