Deterring War, Preserving Peace

Minuteman Missile National Historic Site protects two 1960's Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) sites: Launch Control Facility Delta-01 and Missile Silo Delta-09. The Visitor Center is on the north side of exit 131 (off I-90) just east of Wall South Dakota; about an hour's drive from Rapid City.

Launch facility Delta Nine is a 25 foot diameter, 80 foot deep, Minuteman missile silo. The underground launch tube is made of 14-inch-thick reinforced, steel-plated, concrete and was the first of 60 silo's built by the Morrison-Knudsen Corporation in the Great Plains. - AsNotedIn
