Situated in the Central Alps, Graubunden is the largest and most easterly canton of Switzerland. Within the confines of this mountainous state are peaks and glaciers of the Adula, Albula, Bernina, Silvretta, Todi and Rhatikon ranges, broken by level valleys, such as those of the Upper Rhine. Notable tourist resorts include Davos, St Moritz, Pontresina and Arosa.
A culturally blended area, about half of the population, mainly around Chur, speak German; about one-sixth, in the southern valleys, speak Italian; and about one-third, in the Bundner Oberland and the Vorderrhein and Engadin valleys, speak Romansh and Ladin, decedents of an ancient Romance language. - AsNotedIn
