Umbrella Rocks, also known as Hoodoos or Mushroom Rocks are top heavy rock columns scattered throughout Pine Valley, Woodmen Valley and on the bluffs east of Monument Creek in Colorado Springs. In 1906, Colorado College geology professor George Finley wrote in his book, Colorado Springs: A Guide Book Describing the Rock Formations in the Vicinity of Colorado Springs, that a visitor could see 40 to 50 columns by standing near the middle of Monument Valley Park. The boundaries of Monument Valley Park have change from the description in Finley's book and modern development has isolated many of the rock formations into the backyards of private homes leaving the most publicly accessible formations in Palmer Park and University Park. - AsNotedIn
