Droitwich Spa
- Roman Era: Salinae
- Anglo-Saxon Era: Saltwich
Droitwich Spa is an historic spa town and civil parish in northern Worcestershire, set upon the River Salwarpe, lying about 22 miles south of Birmingham and some 7 miles north of Worcester. From the days of Roman Salinae through the 19th century, the drawing of salt from its brine springs formed the chief industry of the place. The High Street remains lively with shops and historic buildings. The Roman Catholic Church of the Sacred Heart and St Catherine of Alexandria is notable for its mosaics by Gabriel Pippet. The medieval Church of Saint Andrew stands with its stained glass and rich furnishings, while the Norman-era Church of Saint Peter, at the end of St Peter's Church Lane, retains a fine lychgate and long-held associations with the American Pilgrims. - AsNotedIn
